Looking for a fun, free sewing class in Doncaster? Our Sewing for Wellbeing 4-week course is designed exclusively for total beginners, people who have never used a sewing machine or haven’t sewn for a long time and want to get back into sewing.

This course is not suitable for anyone with sewing experience. If you already know how to use a machine, you can join our alternative workshop Bring Your Own Project. Over four weekly sessions, you’ll enjoy a friendly, supportive environment. You can learn basic sewing skills, build confidence, meet new people, and create festive projects from scratch.

Everything you’ll use has been kindly donated by members of the community. This support makes it possible to run these classes for free. By taking part, you’re helping to support community wellbeing while enjoying a fun, creative experience. You’re also welcome to bring or buy your own materials if you prefer.

This free sewing workshop in Doncaster is designed to help you reduce stress, build confidence, and connect with others, while having fun and learning practical skills completely from scratch.

🪡 Weekly Projects

Week 1 Getting Started: Meet Your Sewing Machine
This session is all about getting started. You will learn how to set up and safely use a sewing machine. You will practice basic stitches and explore simple techniques to build your confidence. We will also spend time getting to know each other in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Week 2 Christmas Drawstring Gift Bag
In week two you will make a festive drawstring bag. You will learn cutting, measuring and basic bag construction while creating a lovely handmade item to take home. Guidance and support are provided every step of the way.

Week 3 Christmas Bunting
Week three focuses on making festive bunting to decorate your home or give as a gift. You will practice joining pieces of fabric, creating shapes and adding decorative touches, all in a supportive beginner-friendly environment.

Week 4 Christmas Cushion Cover
Our final session will guide you through making a simple Christmas cushion cover. You will bring together the skills learned in previous weeks. Skills such as stitching, finishing, and creating neat seams to complete a festive home accessory. The inner cushion is not included, but can be bought separately from Sewcute Fabrics next door.
