📐 Understanding Darts in Garment Design (Session Segment)

This focused teaching segment introduces the role darts play in shaping garments and improving fit. Your tutor explains concepts clearly and uses visual examples so you can see how dart placement affects the final shape.

During this section, the facilitator will:

  • Explain how darts control fabric shape and contour

  • Show common dart types and placements used in bodices

  • Highlight frequent fitting mistakes and how to avoid them

This foundation makes the later manipulation exercises much easier to understand.

👩‍🏫 How the Session Is Delivered

Your tutor demonstrates each dart manipulation method first. You then apply it yourself. This keeps the process clear and practical.

The workshop runs in short guided stages:

  • Identifying dart positions and functions

  • Rotating darts to new locations

  • Splitting and combining darts

  • Creating new style lines from dart movement

Regular pause points allow time for checking and questions.
