🧵 Sew Strong – Free Wellbeing Quilting Workshops
FREE Wellbeing Quilting Workshops at Sew Mindful Crafts. Join our Sew Strong project to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and learn new skills in a supportive environment.
Sew Strong is funded by Weston Park Cancer Charity and delivered by Sew Mindful Crafts CIC. The project offers a series of free Cancer Support Wellbeing Sewing Workshops for people whose lives have been affected by cancer.
These weekly sessions are open to people affected by cancer either directly or indirectly. You may be living with cancer, recovering from treatment, caring for a loved one, supporting someone through their journey, or coping with bereavement.
Whatever your situation, Sew Strong provides a welcoming and supportive space where you can learn new skills, meet new people, and focus on your wellbeing, the good news is its totally free and you only have to book and attend sessions that work for you.
Above all, Sew Strong is about bringing people together through creativity, confidence-building, and community.
💜 About Our Wellbeing Quilting Workshops
A cancer diagnosis can affect every aspect of life. It can impact not only the person receiving treatment but also family members, carers, and loved ones.
For this reason, Sew Strong has been developed as a gentle and welcoming opportunity to take time out, connect with others, and enjoy the benefits of creativity.
Each session combines quilting, wellbeing, and social connection. Participants develop practical skills, improve confidence, and reduce feelings of isolation. They also become part of a supportive community.
🪡 What You’ll Learn in Our Cancer Wellbeing Quilting Workshops
During these Wellbeing Quilting Workshops, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn how to use a sewing machine with guidance and support
- Learn how to create a memory project, like memory quilt/blanket, cushion etc with loved ones items. (You will need your own fabrics for these). Memory quilts are personalised quilts made from cherished clothing items preserving memories and creating a unique keepsake,
- Take part in collaborative community projects like quilt blocks/wall hangings etc
- Build confidence through learning new skills
- Meet like-minded people in a supportive setting
- Enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Every project has been designed to be enjoyable, achievable, and suitable for beginners.

🎗 Community Projects That Make a Difference
As part of the Sew Strong programme, participants will work together on projects that help raise awareness and celebrate resilience.
Projects may include:
- Creating memory blankets/quilts/cushions with your loved ones preloved clothing. These are personalised items made from cherished clothing items preserving memories and creating a unique keepsake
- Cancer awareness signs
- Awareness banners
- Community wall hangings
- Textile art displays
- Collaborative sewing projects
Completed projects (other than personalised memory items) will be displayed throughout Doncaster and surrounding areas. They will help spread awareness, hope, and community spirit.
🎯 Skill Level
- Prior sewing experience is not required
- Complete beginners are very welcome
- Support and encouragement are provided throughout
- Participants can work at their own pace
Whether you have never touched a sewing machine before or would simply like to refresh your skills, Sew Strong is designed to be accessible and welcoming.
⏱ Session Information
Fridays
10:00am – 1:00pm
These sessions will focus on quilting and community wall hanging projects & memory items.
These regular workshops help participants build confidence and develop friendships. They also encourage a positive routine over time.

Everything is provided, so you can simply come along and enjoy the experience.
This includes:
- Use of sewing machines and equipment
- Fabric & thread (unless a memory item where you will need to fetch your own) and sewing supplies
- Expert guidance and support
- Tea, coffee, and refreshments
